Description
Elderberries can have a juicy tart, tangy or bitter taste depending on the variant. This versatile fruit grows in bundles on reddish stems and ranges in colour from dark purple to black. Small white or cream-coloured elderflowers blossom in Spring and Summer and are always grouped together.
Even though elderberries are drought-tolerant, they still need about 25ml of water per week in order to promote growth and produce fruit in Summer. This low-maintenance, heat-resistant fruit can be used as a hedge and is suitable for indoor or container planting and can be used as a hedge.

Planting distance: 1m between plants with 4-5m between rows.
Pruning requirements: Pruning will only be needed after the first two years of growth. You will need to prune its bushes early in Spring by trimming them back and removing any dead branches.
Used for: Juices, jams, tarts, desserts, cordials, wine, champagnes or fresh fruit. Elderberry extracts can also be used for many medicinal properties.
