Description
Granadilla plants are evergreen perennial vines that often grow up against a supported fence or wall and have an estimated lifetime of around 3 years. It is best not to plant them against other plants or trees as they are fast growers and will take over.
This subtropical plant has a deep root system and should avoid clay soils. They make the perfect indoor or container plant as long as they have a supporting stake to form a trellis on.
- Tolerates temperatures as low as 13°C
- Estimated height: 6m
- Estimated width: 1-1.5m
- Planting distance: 1-2m
- Drought-resistant
Cultivars: Passiflora edulis.
Pollen compatibility: Self-pollinating, they do rely on pollinating insects, especially bees, for successful pollination.
Water requirements: Water every 2-3 days.
Fun facts: Granadillas are rich in antioxidants and provide many different nutritional values as they are high in vitamin A, C and Fibre.
