Description
Mint is a low-maintenance climbing plant that can be both indigenous or exotic depending on the type of cultivar. It has purple, pink and white flowers that blossom from Winter to Spring.
Mint prefers semi-shaded areas but can be planted in full sun areas as long as it is protected from strong afternoon sunlight and receives regular watering.
Mint is toxic to dogs, cats and horses if it is eaten.
- Tolerates temperatures as low as 13°C
- Estimated height: 30-60cm
- Estimated width: 45-60cm
- Planting distance: 60cm
- Indoor
Cultivars: Peppermint, Spearmint, Pineapple mint, Apple mint (Woolly mint), Pennyroyal, Ginger mint, Horsemint, Red Raripila mint, Catmint, Chocolate mint, Orange mint, Lavender mint, Grapefruit mint, Calamint Licorice mint, Basil mint, Chewing Gum mint, Watermint Corn or Field mint.
Pollen compatibility: Self-pollinating depending on the cultivar. Some cultivars are self-fertile hybrids meaning that can possibly bear seeds of off-types even when only one type of cultivar is planted.
Water requirements: Water regularly to moderately.
Herbaceous perennial: Mint plants aren’t evergreen or deciduous, but rather herbaceous perennials since their roots remain alive while the top dies down to the ground yearly and sends up new top growth.
