CHONDROPETALUM TECTORUM (CAPE THATCHING REED)
A single-stemmed tree which branches fairly high up. The main stem in young trees is yellowish with papery flakes and matures to be fairly smooth or course with longitudinal fissures. The recurved prickles are dark grey. The pods are found in drooping clusters and are reddish-brown, straight with a pointed tip and split on the tree.
