Description

A valuable small, ornamental tree that is water-wise once established.  With consistent care, this tree will not disappoint with its sturdy growth and thriving light green foliage.  Suitable for indoor or container planting or as a bonsai subject.

This drought-resistant tree gets its common name of Red Ivory from the colour of its hardwood.  It is also known as a ‘royal’ tree in KwaZulu-Natal where only chiefs were permitted to have knobkieries crafted out of its wood.

  • Young trees need to be protected from frost
  • Tolerates a temperature range between 17-28°C
  • Estimated height: 6-8m
  • Estimated width: 4-5m
  • Edible fruit
